As part of overall separator designs, mesh or vane pack mist eliminators are usually included inside KO drums and multiphase separators to separate liquid droplets from gas streams. Well-designed and operated mist extractors can be very efficient at removing liquid mists from gas/vapor streams.
The ultimate solution for mist eliminators depends on the fluid, the operating conditions, the vessel design, other internals and the required product specification. With a particularly tight vessel design or very low carryover figures, a combination mesh and vane mist eliminators may be used.
